Frequently Asked Questions

What sets the FMD apart from other ophthalmic devices?
The FMD is the only device ever cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the measurement of Serial Tonometry, Tonography, and Ophthalmodynamometry.

What tests does the FMD perform?
The FMD performs Serial Tonometry, Tonography, and Ophthalmodynamometry.

What is Serial Tonometry?
Serial Tonometry is repeated IOP measurements over time.

What sets the FMD IOP measurement apart from other Tonometers?
The FMD performs sequential IOP measurements during all phases of multiple cardiac cycles to provide a true average IOP. IOP is naturally higher during Systole and lower during Diastole. The FMD captures this variation.

What is Tonography?
Tonography is the measurement of Aqueous Humor Outflow.

Why is it important to perform Tonography?
Impaired Aqueous Humor Outflow causes elevated IOP. Aqueous Humor Outflow is impaired in eyes with Open Angle and Closed Angle Glaucoma.

What is Ophthalmodynamometry?
Ophthalmodynamometry is the measurement of Central Retinal Artery Pressure and Ocular Perfusion Pressure. Impaired Ocular Perfusion is a risk factor for glaucoma progression, blindness and stroke.

What is Ocular Perfusion Pressure (OPP)?
True OPP is the difference between mean Central Retinal Artery Pressure and Intraocular Pressure.

Why does the FMD use a fixed use disposable prism that must be changed between patients?
To protect the health of the public. The only effective means of blocking infectious disease transmission is with a fixed use disposable prism.

What CPT procedure codes can be used with the FMD?
For Serial Tonometry use 92100. For Tonography use 92499(Unlisted). For Ophthalmodynamometry use 92260. Check with the respective carrier policies for appropriate use of these codes.

What ICD-10 diagnosis codes can be used with Serial Tonometry and Tonography procedure codes?
In general, the Glaucoma/Glaucoma Suspect H40 group ICD-10 codes can be used with Serial Tonometry and Tonography procedure codes. Check with the respective carrier policies for appropriate use of these codes.

What ICD-10 diagnosis codes can be used with the Ophthalmodynamometry procedure code?
In general, the ICD-10 vascular codes can be used with the Ophthalmodynamometry procedure code. Check with the respective carrier policies for appropriate use of these codes.

When is a signed Advanced Beneficiary Non-Coverage Form (ABN) required?
When billing a patient for any non-covered procedure, an ABN is required.
